The Le Coulagnet Holiday Park is near the attractive medieval city of Marvejos. The park is in the Languedoc-Roussillon countryside. Marvejols has a colourful history. The city suffered greatly during the Hundred Years War and various religious wars. Much of the current city was built around 1601, after the city was destroyed in a religious war and most of the population had died or fled. The three stone entrances to the city are a lasting memory to this terrible occurrence. Marvejols is also known for a more recent event in history. Nearly 100 people, mostly children, were victims of the 'Beast of Gévaudan' in the 18th century. It was assumed that the beast was a wolf and it took some years before the killings stopped. There is a statue commemorating this time. You can visit the Le Loups de Gévaudan (Wolves of Gévaudan) Wild Animal Park. The park is a few kilometres from the city. Wolves live here in semi-captivity and you can observe them up close. The Cévennes National Park is forty kilometres from the holiday park. This is France's second largest national park and it is very popular with nature lovers. The highest point in the area is Mont Lozre at 1699 metres. You can enjoy plenty of sports in and around the park. These include golf, caving, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and a climbing course between trees. The Le Coulagnet Holiday Park is by a stream and is about 1.5 kilometres from Marvejols. The swimming pool with its childrens area, the tennis courts, sports fields and playground are shared with the guests of the next door campsite. There are terraced holiday accommodations and detached chalets on the park. Le Coulagnet has excursion programmes and guided walking trips for active holiday makers. Activities and entertainment for children, teenagers and adults are organised in high season. These include games, competitions and dance evenings.
